1 Year Goals

I used this article from Chris Guillebeau's blog as a rough guideline for my goals. I figure I will be more likely to follow through if I share my goals, my progress, and whatever success I have. In Chris's article, he recommends planning for the future by setting goals according to various categories that are pertinent or important to you.

Writing
  1. Finish Travel Book. I began this project in the Spring, having no idea how much time goes into writing a book, and how much work I already had on my plate. I thought I would be more motivated to work at home, which is not the case at all!
  2. Write 1 Rule per week. Meghan's rules for life.
  3. Write 3 fiction stories. I am a horrible writer. It's not that my writing is bad, it's that I have a hard time finding time to sit down and write. Between my job, having a social life, my boyfriend, and my dogs...time flies!

 Financial
  1. Be debt free
  2. Do something nice and unexpected
  3. Donate to Norsled and Island Dog
Travel
  1. Go to one US destination that I haven't been to before.
  2.  Visit my brother/sister in law 3 times. These people rule. Plus, they have a pretty awesome cat.
  3. Buy plane ticket to Africa. I have wanted to visit the Okavango Delta in Botswana for some time now. Since I also have the longer term goal of visiting each continent (only 2 to go!), I figure it kills to bird with one stone.
  4. Go to Toronto. My roommate has a friend there. It would be neat, ay.
  5. Plan dog-road trip for 2013. Realistically 2012 will be too busy, but 2013 should work!
Health
  1. Workout/run at least 3 days during the week, and once on the weekend.
  2. Get dental work completed
  3. Go to dermatologist.
Friends / Family
  1. Write a letter a week.
  2.  Visit my brother / Sis-in-law twice. They're more awesome than pumpkin curry (which is saying something!).

Dogs
  1. Take dogs out 3 times a week, if not more.
  2. Get Jack x-rays. My little one (only 65 lbs, the little cutie) has the symptoms of hip dysplasia.
  3. Take them to the snow! Really, this needs to happen. They're sled dogs. I want Spike to pull me on a sled, let's hope he doesn't run me into a tree or the road.
Education
  1. Learn conversational Spanish. I feel like a jackass because I don't know Spanish. Most of my neighbors are Mexican with limited English, and it would be great to be able to speak with them.
  2. Read/listen to 12 books this year.
Business
  1. Be more organized. My desk is horrendous looking. Sometimes I find old cashews hidden under stacks of paper. I write notes on post-its, which get lost. It's kind of like a time capsule...So this is what I was thinking about in April or 2009!
